This is what we did to deal with this what you called 'emotional baggage'. We talked about it. I asked her if she have any doubts or anything that bothers her. I listened. Good thing she told everything to me. What I did is that I stopped doing things that could give her doubts, like telling her what we had or what we did before with my ex, etc. Before, I didn't know that it bothers her a lot everytime I mention those things. I thought it's okay to her. I felt insensitive that time. But now, I know what things I should not do and what to avoid of.
