That's where boxers come in. When in public it's really messed up to think that just under your shorts, is your thing. no protection from foreign objects at all, if you happen to just sit on something wet, everything is wet. Your pants/skirt/whatevs and even your thingy would be wet. You just covered it up with one layer and you're just fine with it.
