Mom Suing Son For Stealing Her $51 Million Mega Millions Prize Money

A California mother is suing her son after she won a $51 million dollar lotto ticket. 78-year-old Etta May Urquhart said she bought the winning ticket (which is proven on videotape) but when she went to claim the prize she was overwhelmed and gave her son the ticket to sign. After which she claims he took off with all the cash. Trial attorney Rachel Self said on America’s News HQ that she was surprised there were no criminal charges against the son. However, she says this case was under wraps so things could change now that it’s out in the public. The attorney for Urquhart, Barry Goldner said, “When Etta May went to turn in the ticket she was shaking so badly she couldn’t even function and she couldn’t even hold the pen.” Defense attorney Marcellus McRae weighed in on the case, saying, “If you follow the pattern of how he used the money, with only a fraction allegedly going to his mother for a house and some cash, you certainly would expect her attorney’s to say that this was not only a relationship or position of trust but that the son breached it.” The son purchased four houses and 10 cars for himself among other things and Self says that he also “perpetrated fraud against her by saying look mom I’ll look after this for you to help you avoid the notoriety that’s going to come from this … And it was based on that promise that he made to her that she said okay let’s go forward with this.” Gregg Jarrett said this brought to mind elder abuse “which is rampant in America and it’s sad to say that but it is. That elder Americans are being taken advantage of sometimes by their children, sometimes by third parties.” Self said that the plaintiffs have claimed elder abuse in the case and she said they are not going to need to prove intent, but rather they just need to show that he acted despicably and with a willful and conscious disregard to her interests.
