Lee Hi introduced as Korea's Adele
U.S. media have focused on a 16-year-old Korean female rookie singer, following Psy, 35, who has jumped to the worlds stardom with music video Gangnam Style.
The Wall Street Journal introduced the rising star in an article titled as Meet Koreas Adele on its online edition, Monday.
The paper compared Lee to British female singer Adele with fabulous voice and said her debut single,1,2,3,4 swept to top spot in Koreas music charts for the past 23 days.
Ms. Lee was the runner-up on popular singing-audition show K-Pop Star on SBS TV in April and joined YG Entertainment, the home of Psy, Big Bang and 2NE1, the papers website reported.
Adele sang the theme song of the latest 007 series, Skyfall, which was released in October. Her popular songs include Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You.
Lees single has accumulated 1.3 million downloads, over half of which were in the week after its Oct. 29 launch, in the range normally set by established K-pop superstars.
On Nov. 12, she became the first female debut act to hit top spot in Billboards K-Pop Hot 100 this year.
Dubbed as Monster rookie, Lee has also released a new song titled, 'Scarecrow,' on Nov. 22 for another hit.
